A Day Out in Croyde
Croyde in undeniably one of the prettiest villages in all of Devon thanks to its many thatched cottages, quaint old buildings and of course that gorgeous beach. Its one of the must see attractions during your Devon holidays. The village dates from Saxon times and is named after a Norse Raider called Crydda who landed in Croyde Bay, to celebrate their Viking roots the villagers hold a special Viking Festival each June.
The aforementioned beach is arguable Croyde’s greatest attraction and is known throughout the world as one of the very best surfing locations in Europe. The beach lies between Baggy Point and Saunton Down and besides its rocky north and south the beach is fine and sandy making it ideal for water sports, sand castle building or simply watching the world go by. The beach is backed by impressive dunes, which rise steeply along the beach and extend for half a mile.
If you are camping in Devon during June then you might be lucky enough to get tickets for the Goldcoast OceanFest that takes place every June. This music festival might be relatively new compared to some of the well known festivals but it is fast gaining a reputation as one of the UK’s best new festivals. In recent years the likes of Jason Mraz, the Magic Numbers and Newton Faulkner have all graced the stage.
Aside from music and surfing the village is well known for its clotted cream and truly scrumptious ice creams. What better way to spend your Devon holiday than eating an ice cream on the beach with the waves lapping at your feet.
With all this and so much more Croyde really does make for a fantastic day out!
